This year, as usual, we made the trip up north to cut our Christmas tree. Unlike past years we had to actually go pick-up our permit however. And, since the area we wanted only had 250 permits, and Andy had to work the day they were 1st available, I rushed out to get it. Me, the kids and and what seemed like all of east Mesa. Did I mention this was 3 weeks before Mary was born, and that it was still 100 degrees, and that we had to wait in line for over an hour - outside. There was no way we weren't cutting our tree this year - no matter what. And, of course - this year all of northern AZ was under a winter storm watch on the only 2 days, other than Christmas itself, we could go. The day we got to the family cabin it was beautiful. It started snowing as soon as we got there and was quite pleasant. The next day, the day we cut our tree, it kept snowing, until it started to sleet instead. The roads were incredibly icy and it was incredibly wet. We ended up picking our "spot" based on not getting stuck instead of where it looked like we might find some good trees. And hour later we settled on one of the 2 trees we found that we were legal to cut, dragged it to the car and called it a day. George was a trooper and didn't complain... much. Nina and Mary both got carried, so they were happy and fairly dry. I have never been so wet in my life and the tree looks - "great," considering. At least we had snow, but hopefully next year will be better.
